The Gospel through the Church is the Answer

by Dan Cruver Published Jul 23, 2010

The Gospel is the answer to the global orphan crisis, and the Church is the people through whom the answer is applied. In His great wisdom God has called the Church to care for the orphan and the widow (James 1:27), but without the Gospel there is no empowerment for the church to do what it is called to do.

Not only was the Church birthed by the Gospel, it is also grown and sustained by the Gospel. The Gospel is the good news that in the Person of Jesus Christ—through his Incarnation, death, burial, resurrection and ascension—God has made and is making all things new.

T.F. Torrance writes, “The resurrection of Jesus heralds an entirely new age in which [the] transformation of heaven and earth will take place, or rather has already begun to take place, for with the resurrection of Jesus that new world has already broken into the midst of the old” (Space, Time, and Resurrection, 31). It is because of who Jesus is in himself and because of our union with him that creation will be freed from its bondage to corruption when we, the sons of God, are revealed. The only reason creation will be freed from its bondage to corruption through our revealing is that we are united to the resurrected and ascended incarnate Son of God, because we are in union with the one in whom new creation has been definitively achieved.

This is why I say that the Gospel is the answer to the global orphan crisis, and that the Church is the people through whom the answer is applied. Orphan care is so much more than simply caring for fatherless children. It’s ultimately about the Gospel and the Church! That’s why our conference theme this year is “The Gospel, the Church, and the Global Orphan Crisis.”

If a group from your church would like to join us in order to explore this great theme more deeply, we are providing a church group discount of $69 per person for groups of 6 or more. Our prayer is that there will be at least 50 church groups represented at the conference. Will your church prayerfully consider joining us as we consider “The Gospel, the Church, and the Global Orphan Crisis”? Please contact brian.morgan@TogetherforAdoption.org for information about our church group discount.

On a side note, I think it would be fantastic if our two sponsoring hotels were booked up with groups from 50 different churches. Imagine the impact that something like this could have on the hotel staff and the opportunity that this would provide you to connect with other churches that share your church’s passion…
