twitter2Orphans Refuge, the mission arm of Together for Adoption, is now on Twitter. The large percentage of our Orphans Refuge tweets are about orphan care and social justice. If you follow Orphans Refuge on Twitter, here’s a sample of the kind of tweets you’ll find:

“Wisdom literature is passionate about the re-establishment of shalom in the world. Think about it: James 1:27 belongs to a wisdom book.”

“Shalom is ‘the webbing together of God, humans, and all creation in justice, fulfillment, and delight’ (Cornelius Plantinga, Jr.).”

“James presents the existence of orphans in our world as exhibit one that things are not the way they’re supposed to be (James 1:27).”

“The presence of orphans & widows in our world shows the disruption of shalom (i.e. universal flourishing) at its most basic level.”

“Central to the orphan mandate (James 1:27) is the work of Christians to bring the shalom of God to bear upon the orphan crises.”

“The word ‘visit’ in James 1:27 serves as a portal into the Gospel itself. See how ‘visit’ is used in Lk 1:68; Acts 15:14; Heb 2:6ff (‘care’).”

“Gospel-centered justice for orphans is going into their world to re-establish shalom theologically, psychologically, socially, & physically.”

“‘Abba! Father!’ is the intense cry for the re-establishment of God’s shalom and justice on this earth.”

Paul’s use of “adoption” in Eph. 1:5, Rom. 9:4, Gal. 4:5, and Rom. 8:15, 23 shows God at work to re-establish shalom on earth for his people.
