[...] As Ed Stetzer pointed out in his address at the 2009 Together for Adoption conference, there is some reason for this concern: it has happened before in church history, and, since the world will applaud our ministries of compassion but be offended by our exclusive gospel, it’s always going to be a temptation to downplay that which brings conflict. However, as Stetzer also made abundantly clear in his message, Scripture undeniably calls us to both ministries of word and ministries of deed, to furthering the gospel and extending God’s mercy and compassion in practical ways. Therefore, if the church is to be faithful, we must pursue both things God has called us to, all the while being realistic and on guard about temptations to fear man and compromise the gospel.
