Providing gospel-centered resources to mobilize the church for global orphan care.

If Anything Will Mobilize the Church . . .

by Dan Cruver Published Aug 14, 2009

Michael P. V. Barrett:

“Our sonship rests on a love that never began as well as a love that will never end. In eternity before the beginning of time and obviously before the beginning of us, God chose to make us His children. The gospel was not God’s afterthought or even His forethought; it was His eternal thought” (Complete in Him: A Guide to Understanding and Enjoying the Gospel, 170).

If anything will mobilize the church to care for orphans over the long haul, it is the truth of the gospel. As God’s children through adoption, we are loved by a love that will never end. Because of the gospel, we are not spiritual orphans. We are God’s dearly loved children. Forever.

We, who once were spiritual orphans without hope in this world (Eph. 2:12), are now the children in whom our Father eternally delights—even as He delights in His eternal Son (Mark 1:11). Those who daily enjoy a love like this are those who hear the mandate of James 1:27 and fulfill it with great joy and perseverance.

We love because God first loved us (1 John 4:19).
