Adoption is God the Judge taking home the once-condemned law-breaker and, as Father, giving him the privileges and joys of a son.
Please enter me into the draw.

Adoption is the beauty of grace lived out.. .showing the world that love is not about biology or having the right outward appearance. It embodies what love really is. . .mercy, unconditional acceptance, a forever committment to be a family. Not only that, but it is just another way to see God's sovereignty at work in creating families for His glory. Adoption was God's way of bringing us our first child and he brings us so much joy. I felt the strength of adoption almost more strongly after I gave birth to our daughter. They are both part of us, grafted in to our family through different means, but the bonds of love know no distinction. People often think they will love a biological child differently, but I feel just as strongly about my son as I do about my daughter. I waited for him to join our family with as much anticipation as I did for her.
I guess my main point is that, yes, adoption is a display of God's gracious mercy in our lives. . .but that is not the main reason to adopt. The main reason is love for the children that God wants to bring into your family. May it not be a badge of honor, but rather, a blessing that God has placed upon you to have the privelege of loving a child created in His image, for His glory. Even though my marriage is also a display of God's glory, that is not why I married my husband. It is because I loved him and wanted to love him for my entire life. That is why we adopted our son, because we wanted to love him and be a part of his life. The beauty of it is that through that, God is glorified!

Our main reason for adoption, and that which drives all other reasons, is OUR adoption through Christ. You see, "when the fullness of time had come, God sent forth his Son, born of woman, born under the law, to redeem those who were under the law, so that we might receive adoption as sons." (Galatians 4:4-5) The adoption of a child pictures, in physical reality, that which occured, in spiritual reality, in the lives of all who have placed their faith in Christ.
The question for us, then, is not whether or not we should be involved in adoption, but rather, in what capacity should we be involved? Adoption is not a result of the Gospel, or a secondary, maybe even tertiary, concern of the Gospel. Adoption IS the Gospel. Adoption IS the good news of the Kingdom. God has joined to His family those who were His blood enemies and deserving of only eternal punishment. He has taken unwanted and ill-treated orphans and made them His heirs. Our desire is for that truth to be displayed in and through our family. That is why we want to adopt.

After adopting our first child, a passerby said to us, "We thought about adopting, but then my wife got pregnant so we didn’t have to.” My husband and I felt sad that this man had obviously missed the point of adoption. We didn't have to adopt either... we wanted to! The message I feel God has given our family to proclaim from the rooftops or silently through our daughters smiles is that adoption is not a last resort nor is it a plan B after everything else fails. Adoption is an opportunity! It is a chance to experience a path to parenthood that is unlike any other! We were invited to experience the adoption road with all it’s potholes and unexpected turns. It was on that road that we discovered… the heart of God. James 1:27

Reading this morning in Job, I observed in chapter 31 that when Job pleads his righteousness (a point conceded by the narrator and never disputed by God), he lists moral purity, faithfulness to wedding vows, justice to his servants, and compassion to widows and the fatherless. "From my youth the fatherless grew up with me as with a father."
When James linked orphan care and moral probity to true religion, he was drawing on a rich tradition.

I look at my two sons (adopted from Russia in 2007), and I thank God that He did not fulfill my dreams the way I had wanted them fulfilled earlier in our marriage. I thank God that He gave me and my husband a passion for His dreams for us. I understand my spiritual adoption in such a deeper way now that we have experienced adoption. We are now waiting for two children from Ethiopia. Our children are such precious gifts from God!
Oh, how I pray that more Christians will be willing to "give life" to a child.

Adoption has changed my life in 2 ways. First, God's adoption of me, an undeserving sojourner in this world. Praise Him for not passing me over because I wasn't perfect. Second, He wants me to take what I have received and do the same for the oppressed sojourners in our world...the orphans. I am so thankful that He has called us to adopt 3 beautiful girls from Romania in 2002 and now 2 more beautiful girls from Uganda.

My wife and I have begun our third adoption. Our two children were adopted in 98 and 03 as infants - as were my wife and me in 1965. Every member of our home is adopted. Thus how precious is this doctrine to us, that we - adopted children - are heirs of the grace of life. Under no merit of our own, with no rights we could claim, only by the gracious intervention of a loving Father, who gave us his Son's name.

My wife and I have been married only three months and are already pursuing adoption due to our own adoption into God's family and the abundance of resources which have helped encourage the process.

When I see my child (who happens to be adopted) I smile, and my heart beats and my mind thinks, "My son!" What joy to feel this way over my son. And what joy to know our Father rejoices over us in this way because of Jesus Christ.
